Over the past year or two this shape has gained fascination with many pipe collectors over the whole of the United States. The shape was originally created at the Castello workshop, and since Gigi Radice had worked there from the mid fifties to 1969 and was also a master at creating new and different models I was convinced he had come up with this one. Well, I couldn't wait to let you all know this but... it wasn't true. When I questioned Gigi, anticipating the exciting answer he said... no. He didn't create the Hawkbill shape and didn't know who did. But- he did carve the shape more often than anyone else at the workshop until he left to co-found Caminetto.
