The three ads above appear in the Fall 2001 issue of Pipes & Tobaccos. The ASHTON ad shows another example of the PebbleShell finish while the RADICE photo gives two examples of the same model (one with clear mouthpiece, one with black) in the Twin Bore Series. The IL CEPPO ad presents something rather rare in the IL CEPPO brand- a smooth finished model. Another shape in the Ashton PebbleShell series (this one looking a bit like a calabash), and an in-depth look at the Radice twin bore mouthpiece. Both ads made their appearance in the Winter 2002 issue of Pipes and Tobaccos. Appearing in the Spring 2002 issue of Pipes and Tobaccos the Ashton ad shows yet another shape in the patented PebbleShell series, while the Becker ad reflects the rarity of the brand by showing that it is carried by only twenty one shops worldwide. The two Becker pipes pictured here were made in the mid-80's. With the summer 2002 issue of Pipes and Tobaccos comes the delightful threesome shown above. The Ashton pipe is a Quaint, showing outstanding carving; the Becker pipe is a Royal flush Elite C, the supreme grade in the Becker line; the Radice is one of the twin bore series, this of the Hawkbill shape with clear lucite mouthpiece. Fall 2002 brings two more ads in Pipes and Tobaccos. The Ashton is one of the new Quaint series- this in the Oldchurch or unstained finish; the Il Ceppo is a group 6, the next to highest smooth grade in this brand; the Radice is another in the twin bore series. The Becker ad shows two beautiful Royal Flush pipes, one a traditional straight grain and the other of asymmetrical design, and lists the limited number of shops to carry this brand The Winter 2002 issue shows (on one page) a 4 heart Becker asymmetrical pipe with hand-worked silver band, an Il Ceppo panel billiard, also with hand-worked silver, and a very rare Ashton Sovereign in the ELX size. The second ad shows some of the variety of the Radice twin bore series pipes, and also offers an explanation as to why (or why not) the twin bore series may offer you a more pleasant smoking experience. The summer 2003 issue of P&T brings the first ad for Joura (imported by J&J, LLC). Shown here are two of the highest of high grades- the Infinity E. Next we have a Radice ad showing the myriad range of shapes and finishes in the twin bore series. The fall 2003 issue of Pipes and Tobaccos introduced the Radice "Oil Cured" series of pipes. Originally, I thought that these pipes would be stamped "O.C.", as were my prototype pipes. When I received the first selection of pipes I found that "oil cured" was stamped, instead of "O.C." No matter, the pipes themselves, with twin bore mouthpieces, smoke extraordinally well. |
